The Historic OH Brands
In 1881, the OH brand (above) was registered by ranch founders, Orville Hawkins Smith and Lafayette French. It was the twenty-fifth cattle brand registered in what was then known as the North West Territories. The letters O and H are two of only seven characters which cannot be branded upside down or backwards.
Following are some photos taken of the OH Ranch. The picturesque locations of the ranch are frequently sought out by photographers, and below are some of the resulting photographs of the ranch, the traditional way the cattle are managed, and the people involved.
